Murals

In accordance with [ROH Sec. 3-2.7(a)] the Commission on Culture and the Arts (CoCA) is responsible for reviewing mural proposals located on city property.  CoCA reviews proposals in terms of its design, implementation, placement and appropriateness with the existing architecture, landscape, interior design, grounds and facilities. Please note that approval of a mural design does not constitute acceptance into the Public Art in City Buildings Collection unless specifically commissioned by or acquired by the CoCA for the City and County of Honolulu.

Mural proposals must be reviewed by CoCA, Department of Parks and Recreation (or appropriate departments), Neighborhood Board, and City Council.  Therefore, artists and mural organizers should allow sufficient time for the mural proposals to be reviewed prior to implementation of the mural.
